The former star of Ivory Coast, Didier Drogba, expressed solidarity with the victims of the war that broke out in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, and other cities between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.
On his Instagram page, Drogba wrote, "Since the beginning of the war in Sudan, I have been thinking of my Sudanese sisters and brothers. My only visit to Sudan was with unforgettable memories, as we returned with a World Cup qualification card. Our prayers are for those who lost their lives and those who are struggling in light of this war."
He added, "Africa is tired of these wars, our generation is tired of wars, and the time has come to build our countries in peace for the sake of healthy development and a space that allows our youth to grow up in peace."
The United Nations says the fighting in Sudan has killed more than 500 people and caused some 100,000 to flee across the border.
